BRASS AND HERRINGBONE ENSUITE

A serene and highly practical bathroom designed for the client’s daughter, combining generous bespoke storage, durable finishes and warm brass detailing.

The brief was to create a bathroom that felt calm, elegant and grown-up, while still being practical enough for everyday family life. Storage, durability and ease of use were central to the design, with every detail considered around how the space would function day to day.

At the start of the design process, we explored the idea of introducing a tall storage cabinet beside the shower and bath. However, this quickly made the room feel too enclosed, so the focus shifted to maximising storage within a bespoke vanity unit instead.

Designed with a slim frame and fluted drawer fronts, the vanity runs down to the floor to make the most of the internal space while still feeling light and elegant. Recessed alcoves were also added within the shower area, keeping toiletries neatly tucked away and maintaining a clean, uncluttered feel.

The palette is intentionally soft and restrained, with warm whites, subtle tonal variation and pale cabinetry creating a peaceful backdrop. Texture is introduced through the herringbone tiling and fluted vanity fronts, while brushed brass accents add warmth, definition and a quietly luxurious finish.

Practicality was carefully balanced with aesthetics. The vanity top and recessed shelf were specified in quartz rather than marble, offering a more durable and low-maintenance surface for everyday use, particularly where make-up, staining and hard water marks may be a concern.

The herringbone tiling was carefully wrapped into the shower recesses, creating a beautifully detailed finish and showcasing the precision of the installation. A bespoke mirror was also built slightly forward from the wall, making it better suited to the client’s daughter’s current height while still allowing room for her to grow.

The finished bathroom feels serene, refined and effortless to use. It is practical without compromising on elegance, grown-up without feeling too mature, and perfectly suited to everyday family life.
