Off-White Kitchen with Georgian Detailing

The Brief

What began as a simple brief to replace a cracked worktop soon evolved into a transformative redesign. Passionate about her garden and way of life, the client chose to relocate the kitchen from a dark, lower ground floor to a light-filled, garden-facing dining room at the rear of the home. The result is a bespoke space that honours the Georgian character of the property while creating a bright, welcoming hub with direct access to the outdoors and a stronger architectural flow throughout the house.

The Design

The kitchen design centred on integrating the Everhot range into the original fireplace - a feature that brought unexpected structural challenges but ultimately defined the layout. Every element was bespoke, crafted to maximise storage and prep space while maintaining a traditional Georgian aesthetic. The collaborative process allowed for adaptability, ensuring solutions were tailored to the client’s lifestyle.

The Finished Space

Looking out onto the garden, the main preparation area was placed exactly where the client wanted it: bathed in natural light, with uninterrupted views outdoors. The sink sits at the end of the island, adjacent to a two-drawer dishwasher, waste sorting bins, and deep storage for cookware and crockery. Every detail was carefully considered, from vertical dividers for trays and bottles to concealed sockets for everyday appliances, ensuring the space works as beautifully as it looks, with easy access to the central pull-out waste disposal.

As a focal point, the Everhot sits proudly within what was once the original fireplace. Drawn slightly forward to resolve structural constraints, it accommodates a concealed Westin extractor, cleverly disguised behind touch-open storage to preserve the illusion of a seamless, panelled wall. The range anchors a run of tall cabinetry framed in elegant symmetry; to either side, a full-height fridge-freezer and a generous pantry - complete with a built-in coffee machine and pocket doors - mirror each other, creating both visual balance and functional flow.

The cabinetry is painted in a soft off-white, chosen to echo the house’s calm palette and period detailing. Pale stone countertops feature a gentle half bullnose edge, hand-shaped to wrap seamlessly around architectural details and appliances. Drawers are made from solid oak, traditionally dovetailed and designed with full-extension runners for complete access. Doors carry beaded detailing and chamfered posts, softening their profile and bringing an understated elegance to the room.

The finishes are quiet but deliberate. Armac Martin handles were chosen for their simplicity and were used without backplates for a lighter, more refined effect. A Quooker tap in antique brass brings a tonal richness to the scheme, picking up on the aged brass task lighting above. Underfoot, a herringbone timber floor lends warmth and a sense of permanence, grounding the room in character and craft.
