Bathroom Process & Investment Guidance
From the first discussion and room survey to product specification, technical planning and installation, each stage is clearly explained. You will also see what influences the overall investment, what is included and when payments are made.
Bathroom process
Working with your architect, contractor or project team
Many of our bathroom projects form part of wider renovations, extensions, new builds or multi-room schemes. We can join the conversation early, review drawings, discuss services and installation requirements, and coordinate with the professionals already involved in your project.
Understanding the investment in a Hobson’s Choice Bathroom
Every bathroom is individually designed and specified, so the overall investment depends on the size and complexity of the room, product choices, finishes, installation requirements and the wider scope of work involved.

Hobson’s Choice bathroom projects begin from £30,000* including essential products and installation.
A project at the starting level would normally relate to one bathroom with a carefully selected specification, standard product dimensions and a relatively straightforward installation.
Larger rooms, higher-value product selections, made-to-measure furniture or glazing, specialist surfaces and extensive plumbing, electrical or building work will increase the investment.
*Designed and installed with essential sanitaryware, brassware, furniture and finishes. The final scope and quotation will be tailored to your room and requiements.

Experience and Expertise
The value is in what you see, and what you do not
The calmness of a finished bathroom depends on decisions made long before installation: layout, services, drainage, ventilation, lighting, waterproofing, tile setting-out, product positioning and sequencing. Our role is to resolve these details carefully so the finished room feels effortless.
People & expertise
Your Designer, our Operations team, installers and specialist trades work together to deliver a carefully coordinated service, with one accountable team overseeing the project.
Installation preparation & planning
Time spent resolving dimensions, technical requirements and the order of work before installation begins helps reduce risk, rework and compromise on site.
Installation is where design becomes real
The quality of a Hobson’s Choice bathroom depends on the accuracy of its installation.

Your Designer, our Operations team, installers and specialist trades work together from the planning stages, helping ensure the details resolved on paper can be delivered accurately in your home.

Products are delivered to our warehouse, where they are handled, stored and checked before being taken to site.

Installation is carefully coordinated across the different elements of the project. Depending on the agreed scope, this may include plumbing, electrics, lighting, ventilation, plastering, tiling, flooring, decoration and heating.
Bathroom Project FAQs
How much does a Hobson’s Choice bathroom cost?
Hobson’s Choice bathroom projects begin from £30,000, including essential bathroom products and installation.
The final cost depends on the size and complexity of the room, the products and finishes selected, the installation requirements and any preparation, plumbing, electrical or building work included within the project.
What is included in the starting price?
The starting price is based on a bathroom designed and installed by Hobson’s Choice using an essential specification of sanitaryware, brassware, bathroom furniture and finishes.
It includes delivery and our standard installation service. Larger rooms, made-to-measure components, higher-value product selections and projects requiring more extensive preparation or specialist trade work will cost more.
The exact products and services included will be set out in your quotation.
What is included in my quotation?
Your quotation is prepared from the agreed bathroom design and identifies the products, installation work and project services included.
Depending on the scope, it may include:
- bathroom furniture, sanitaryware, brassware and showering products;
- worktops, surfaces, tiles and specified finishes;
- delivery and installation;
- design development and technical coordination;
- plumbing, electrical work and other specialist trades where agreed;
- the project-related services described in your proposal.
The quotation provides the basis for understanding what Hobson’s Choice will supply, install and coordinate.
What is usually excluded?
Work or products outside the agreed project scope are not included unless they are clearly identified in your quotation.
This may include unrelated building work, structural alterations, services provided by your own contractor or any products and works that have not yet been specified.
Any exclusions relevant to your project should be discussed with your designer and recorded within the proposal before you proceed.
How are payments staged?
Payments are linked to clear project milestones.
Following the initial design presentation, you can either proceed directly with a 50% deposit or pay a 10% design retainer to continue developing the design. The retainer is credited towards the 50% deposit when the order is placed.
Approximately one week before the agreed installation date, a further 45% of the contract value becomes due. The final 5% is requested following completion and final installation sign-off.
For absolute clarity, where the 10% retainer has already been paid, the payment required at order stage is the remaining amount needed to bring the total paid to 50%.
What is the design retainer?
The design retainer is a non-refundable payment equal to 10% of the current quotation.
It allows your bathroom design to move beyond the initial presentation and into further development. This includes releasing the current plans, refining the agreed design direction and resolving the scheme in greater technical detail.
The retainer forms part of the overall project cost and is credited towards the 50% deposit if you proceed with the order.
How do you help control costs?
Your designer reviews product, finish and design decisions with your agreed budget in mind throughout the design process.
The staged approach allows the specification and quotation to be reviewed before orders are placed. Where we become aware of an impending supplier price increase during the design-retainer stage, we will aim to give you notice so that you can decide whether to proceed to the order stage.
Once the 50% deposit has been paid and the supplier orders have been placed, the agreed product prices are locked in against later supplier increases.
What happens if the scope changes?
The design is developed from the direction and scope already agreed with you. Normal refinements can be made as the design progresses.
If you request a substantial change, or new work is identified outside the agreed scope, your designer will discuss it with you before proceeding. Any effect on the quotation, specification or project programme should be explained and agreed first.
Changes to a wider renovation or building schedule will also be reviewed with you and the relevant trades so that the bathroom programme can be adjusted wherever reasonably possible.
When are prices fixed?
Prices remain subject to supplier changes while the project is still being developed under the design-retainer stage.
Once the final quotation is approved, the 50% deposit is paid and the supplier orders are placed, the agreed product prices are secured. Your designer will aim to give you advance notice of any known supplier increases before that point.
Additional costs may still arise if you later change the specification or scope, or if work is required that was not included in the agreed quotation. Any such change should be explained and approved before the additional work proceeds.
What are typical lead times, and what can affect them?
Lead times depend on the products specified and whether any furniture, shower screens, worktops or other components need to be made or finished to your project’s dimensions. Manufacturer production schedules and product availability can also affect delivery.
As a guide, allow approximately eight to ten weeks for the bathroom components to arrive at our warehouse. If you are working to a fixed or shorter programme, please discuss it with your designer as early as possible so we can confirm what is achievable. If you have a more pressing timescale, please let us know, and we’ll be able to advise on a case-by-case basis.
Your designer will explain the expected timings before orders are placed and keep you informed if a manufacturer or supplier advises us of a change.
What happens if our build programme or schedule changes?
If schedules shift, we work closely with you and any associated trades to adjust plans wherever possible. Clear communication ensures any changes are managed efficiently and with minimal disruption.
Who coordinates trades and installation sequencing?
Where we are facilitating the installation works, we manage and coordinate trusted third-party trades as part of the overall project.
If you are working with your own builder or trades, we provide the necessary information, drawings and support to ensure installation proceeds smoothly and correctly.
Installation, quality & completion – Who installs our bathroom, and why does that matter?
Installations are carried out by our experienced bathroom specialists who understand the precision required for high-quality furniture and components.
How do you ensure quality during installation?
Quality checks are carried out throughout installation, with attention to alignment, fit, finish and function. Installation is only signed off on once everything meets the agreed standard.
When is the final payment due?
The final 5% payment is requested once the project is complete and everyone is satisfied with the finished result. This payment enables the release of product warranties and associated documentation.
Warranties, aftercare & long-term support – What warranties and guarantees do you provide?
For bathroom designed and installed by Hobson’s Choice, we provide:
- A five year limited warranty on bathroom furniture
- A two year labour warranty
Manufacturer warranties apply to appliances and ancillary components. These warranties cover manufacturing quality and functional safety but exclude consumables such as lights, batteries and filter elements.
What support do we receive after installation?
We provide full handover documentation, appliance commissioning and ongoing support should questions arise. Our relationship with clients continues beyond installation, ensuring confidence and peace of mind.
You will receive a free-of-charge kitchen ‘tune-up’ after around six months. Your installer checks key furniture alignments, such as the now fully-loaded drawers, as well as the general working condition of the kitchen.
Prior to the expiration of the kitchen warranty, we will arrange a free-of-charge ‘Kitchen MOT’ installer visit. During the assessment, your installer will check all of the kitchen furniture and compile a list of any elements that can be replaced or repaired under warranty.
What happens if we need help outside the warranty period?
Out-of-warranty service visits are charged as follows:
- Up to 1 hour: £140 + VAT
- Up to 2 hours: £225 + VAT
- Up to 4 hours: £325 + VAT
- Up to 8 hours: £550 + VAT
Before arranging a visit, we may ask you to send photographs or a short video. This helps us understand the issue, identify any likely parts or materials and prepare the most appropriate response.
