How to plan a new bulthaup kitchen?

From our side

Our designers were asked for their thoughts on the essential considerations when planning a new Bulthaup kitchen project.

This three-part article touches on the fundamental and obvious, as well as the more subtle and often missed.

If you are considering a new bulthaup kitchen renovation, it is always advisable to speak with an expert.

Their knowledge, expertise and experience can open up new possibilities whilst potentially saving you money, stress and time.

Room Layout

The tendency may be to fill the area with as much storage as possible; however, the ‘negative’ space is just as important. Carefully consider the minimum distances between units and movement around the room as a whole.

Imagine yourself using the space day-to-day in a particular activity, such as coming home with the shopping; is there an easy route from the front door to unloading the shopping onto a worktop? Consider where the dry food or larder storage is relative to this drop-off point, as this can improve the bulthaup kitchen’s functionality.

Like the ovens, the fridge is not something one lingers at for extended periods. Thus, locating it slightly farther from the cooking and water points means others can access it without crossing your path while you are busy prepping.

If possible, positioning it closer to the dining area offers the added advantage of clear access to drinks, milk, and other essentials for self-service.

Another primary consideration is the area allocated for food prep; do you have easy access to knives and chopping boards? Is there enough worktop space next to the cooking or water point for prepping? Although offsetting the hob to one side on an island may result in a loss of symmetry, it does provide more functional worktop space. Similarly, the more space between the sink and hob along a sink-run, the better.

What do you not like about your existing kitchen?

If this is a redesign of the existing space, what doesn’t work for your personal situation?  Every client is unique, as much as their new bulthaup kitchen will be.

  • Is it natural light? Not enough or even too much?

  • Views, now more than ever, we all want to see something beautiful outside, that will bring calm to a busy workspace like the kitchen.

  • Sound is also another aspect to consider. With open-plan living so popular, noise levels cannot be an afterthought.
