the brief
A more functional kitchen, connected to the wider home
As part of a larger interior refurbishment, the clients wanted to improve how their kitchen worked while creating greater continuity between its materials, tones and the surrounding rooms.
The new layout also needed to respect the natural route through the space from the hallway to the garden, while making better use of the large bi-fold doors and the outlook beyond.

The Design
Designed around the route to the garden
The main working area is positioned close to the bi-fold doors, allowing the garden to become part of the experience of cooking and bringing plenty of natural light into the kitchen.
At the centre, the island creates a subtle divide between the cooking zone and the natural route from the hallway outside. This keeps people moving through the room without interrupting someone preparing food, while the walnut breakfast bar provides a place to sit and socialise nearby.
The Design
Walnut warmth against a quieter palette
Alpine White furniture across the island and sink run creates a light, understated foundation, contrasted by the deeper Flint finish of the tall cabinetry.
Walnut veneer then appears selectively throughout the room across the breakfast bar, wall furniture and inside the pocket-door cupboard, bringing natural warmth and texture to the otherwise restrained palette.
Together, the three finishes create contrast without making the kitchen feel overly busy, allowing the walnut grain to become one of the defining details of the space.
Practical details kept quietly out of sight
Much of the kitchen’s functionality is integrated behind its clean surfaces. A sectional roller shutter opens to reveal a walnut-lined area for the coffee machine and accessories, keeping them readily accessible without leaving them permanently on display.
The island provides generous push-to-open storage, while adjustable bulthaup Prism inserts allow the internal organisation of drawers to be arranged around the clients’ needs. The cabinetry itself is made to fit precisely into the room, helping maintain the clean, uninterrupted lines of the b3 furniture.
The same handleless approach continues into the adjoining utility room, creating visual consistency beyond the kitchen.
The Details
Kitchen & Materials
The bulthaup b3 furniture combines Alpine White and Flint laminate, with walnut veneer used across the wall units, breakfast bar and interior of the sectional roller-shutter cupboard. Flint laminate wall panels and stainless-steel plinths continue the restrained palette, while a 12mm Corian worktop in Glacier White incorporates the sink seamlessly into the working surface.
Appliances
Miele appliances provide the kitchen’s principal cooking, cooling and cleaning functions. A BORA Pure induction cooktop with integrated downdraft extraction allows the hob to sit on the island without an overhead extractor, while a Quooker Fusion provides instant boiling water at the sink.
Everyday Funtion
Inside the drawers, bulthaup’s adjustable Prism organisation system allows storage to be configured around everyday use. A Bisque Lissett radiator in Volcanic forms part of the wider specification, while the same sleek, handleless design language is carried through into the utility room.
