the brief
Initially looking to replace the kitchen island and flooring, the homeowner saw an opportunity to rethink the entire space. The aim was to retain the familiar open-plan layout while improving functionality and introducing a design that better reflected her personality and lifestyle.

A considered use of colour and materials
The homeowner’s love of colour played an important role in shaping the design.
bulthaup furniture in graphite and gravel provides an understated backdrop for the vibrant artwork, orange seating and colourful accessories throughout the home.
Warm walnut accents introduce contrast against the lighter oak-toned flooring, while slender porcelain worktops complement the kitchen’s contemporary aesthetic.
Thoughtful improvements to the layout
The existing layout was carefully refined to improve storage, accessibility and the overall flow of the space.
The removal of an existing fireplace behind the cabinetry created additional depth, allowing for a more streamlined arrangement of appliances and the introduction of concealed storage.
The island was also repositioned and raised on slender legs, bringing a greater sense of lightness to the open-plan room.
Designed around everyday living
The extended walnut breakfast bar provides a dedicated work-from-home space, while an integrated coffee and tea station, complete with warm lighting and pocket doors, keeps everyday essentials accessible but neatly concealed when not in use.
Opening into the dining area, with views towards the garden and adjoining living space, the kitchen feels naturally connected to the rest of the home.
The result is a thoughtful balance of form, function and personality, designed around the way the homeowner lives.
