Our clients desired a modern kitchen which would sit comfortably within the contemporary building.
The property was designed by architect, Allister Godfrey, in collaboration with interior designer, Shoba Kumar.

The Design
Designing a Kitchen for an award-winning house
By working closely with all three key stakeholders, our designer, Richard Keyes, created a kitchen that has a presence in the large open-plan living space and fulfilled all of their functional requirements.
With wraparound views of the gardens, the kitchen island serves as a focal point for cooking and conversing with guests.
A BORA X Pure induction cooktop with an integrated downdraft extractor eliminates the need for overhead hoods, keeping sightlines undisturbed and the ceiling free of obstructions.
The Design
Finishing touches
Extended-height tall units make the most of the high ceiling, maximising available storage space and creating a clean backdrop to the kitchen area.
Wall units above the sink run offer an elevated position to prominently display decorative items and art, visible from across the open-plan living area.
The Result
Dark matte finishes introduce depth and sophistication, while carefully selected furniture and materials soften the overall composition.
The kitchen functions seamlessly within the wider open-plan layout, connecting naturally to the dining and lounge areas and supporting both relaxed family life and entertaining.
Layout & Flow
The kitchen is organised around a central island, positioned to take advantage of the surrounding garden views and open-plan arrangement.
The layout encourages movement and interaction, allowing cooking, dining, and social spaces to flow naturally into one another while maintaining clear functional zones.
Island & Focal Elements
The island acts as the visual and social centrepiece of the space. Its generous proportions support preparation, cooking, and casual dining, while maintaining strong visual connections across the room.
Integrated seating creates an informal gathering space, reinforcing the kitchen’s role as the heart of the home.
Materials
A restrained palette of Mocha Brown matte laminate creates a calm and sophisticated foundation.
The dark cabinetry contrasts subtly with lighter architectural elements and surrounding natural light, allowing the kitchen to feel grounded without overpowering the space.
Cabinetry & Storage
Extended-height units maximise available storage while reinforcing the room’s vertical scale.
Wall cabinetry above the sink run is positioned to display artwork and decorative objects, introducing personality and visual interest within the otherwise minimal composition.
Indoor–Outdoor Connection
Large expanses of glazing create a strong relationship between the kitchen and the surrounding gardens.
Natural light moves freely through the space, while uninterrupted sightlines reinforce the connection between interior architecture and landscape.
Finishes & Detailing
The design balances strong architectural forms with softer textures and carefully considered detailing.
Matte surfaces, warm timber tones, and layered furnishings create a space that feels contemporary yet comfortable, minimal in appearance, but inviting in use.
